2027 Ford Three-Row SUV
Ford
Explorer
The family SUV with three rows and a real tow package standard.
The Explorer is the midsize three-row SUV for families who need more room than a two-row crossover but don’t need the size of an Expedition. It’s easier to park, and every Explorer comes with a Class III tow package.
It’s a great fit for the Prescott area: all-weather confidence for winter mornings, room for kids and gear, and enough towing for a small camper or a boat.
I sell new and used Explorers in Dewey, near Prescott, to buyers from all over Arizona. Don’t see the exact one you want? Text me anyway. I’ll tell you what’s available and what your options are.

| 3.0L EcoBoost V6 | 400 hp, 415 lb-ft (standard on ST; available on Tremor and Platinum) |

| Max cargo | Up to 85.8 cu ft |
From Ford’s published 2027 specs. Maximums apply to properly equipped vehicles only. Always confirm on the specific vehicle.
The 2.3L is plenty for most families. The 3.0L V6 is worth it if you tow regularly or want effortless power on long climbs out of the Valley.
5,000 lbs suits a small camper, a pop-up or a boat. For most travel trailers, look at an Expedition or F-150.
Truck + Trailer
Which Travel Trailers Can It Tow?
I sell Rockwood, R-Pod and Winnebago travel trailers too. Here’s how a few real floor plans line up against the Explorer’s max tow rating of 5,000 lbs.
| Travel trailer | GVWR | vs. 5,000 lbs |
|---|---|---|
| R-Pod RP-153 | 4,524 lbs | Tight |
| Winnebago Micro Minnie 2108DS | 5,500 lbs | Over |
| R-Pod RP-206 | 6,229 lbs | Over |
| Rockwood Ultra Lite 2606WS | 8,542 lbs | Over |
Good fit: GVWR at or under 80% of the max tow rating (my rule of thumb). Tight: under the rating without much margin. Over: above it. Compared against the Explorer’s maximum rating; your vehicle may be rated lower, and payload has to be checked separately.
FAQ
Questions I Get a Lot
How much can the Ford Explorer tow?
Up to 5,000 lbs, and every Explorer comes with the Class III Trailer Tow Package standard.
Explorer or Expedition?
The Explorer is easier to park and drive around town. The Expedition has more room in the third row, more cargo space and tows up to 9,600 lbs. If you tow a travel trailer, the Expedition is usually the better fit.
How many people does the Explorer seat?
Six or seven. Captain’s chairs are standard; a second-row bench for seven is available on all trims except Tremor.
