Forest River Travel Trailers
R-Pod
Travel Trailers
Compact, easy-to-tow trailers with a cult following, built for weekend trips and smaller tow vehicles.
R-Pod trailers are small, light and easy to live with. They park in tighter campsites, tow with smaller vehicles, and still fit a bed, kitchen and bathroom.
They’re one of the best answers to a question I hear all the time: “What can I tow without buying a full-size truck?”
I sell R-Pod travel trailers in Dewey, near Prescott, and work with buyers from across Arizona. Text me and I’ll send a video walkaround of what’s on the lot.
R-Pod Lines
- Smaller R-Pods (around 17–20 ft)The lightest floor plans. Easy to tow, easy to park, and a great fit for couples and first-time RVers.
- Larger R-Pods (around 22–25 ft)More living and storage space, still compact compared to most travel trailers. Some include slide-outs.
Availability varies by model year and what’s in stock. Ask me what’s on the lot.
Towing
Which Ford Can Tow an R-Pod?
It depends on the floor plan. Here’s one example, the R-Pod RP-153, using its published specs. Always compare the trailer’s GVWR, not its dry weight, to the tow rating, and then check payload.
| R-Pod RP-153 | Published spec |
|---|---|
| Dry weight | 3,024 lbs |
| GVWR (max loaded) | 4,524 lbs |
| Length | 17' 3" |
| Trailer | Maverick | Explorer | Ranger | Expedition | F-150 |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| R-Pod RP-153 GVWR 4,524 lbs | Over | Tight | Good fit | Good fit | Good fit |
Good fit: trailer GVWR at or under 80% of the Ford’s max tow rating (my rule of thumb). Tight: under the rating but without much margin. Over: above the rating. Max ratings below apply to properly equipped vehicles only; your truck may be rated lower. Always check payload too.
| Ford | Max towing | When |
|---|---|---|
| Maverick | 4,000 lbs | with the 4K Tow Package |
| Explorer | 5,000 lbs | standard Class III tow package |
| Ranger | 7,500 lbs | properly equipped |
| Expedition | 9,600 lbs | 4x4 with Heavy-Duty Trailer Tow Package |
| F-150 | 13,500 lbs | properly equipped, 3.5L EcoBoost |

FAQ
Questions I Get a Lot
Can a Ford Ranger tow an R-Pod?
Many R-Pods are well within a properly equipped Ranger’s 7,500-lb rating. For example, the RP-153 has a published GVWR of 4,524 lbs. Check payload too once you add passengers and gear.
Can an Explorer tow an R-Pod?
Some of the smallest R-Pods may be within range of the Explorer’s 5,000-lb rating, but there’s less margin. Compare the trailer’s GVWR, not its dry weight, and talk to me before you decide.
